Sorry, bugzilla hates me.  It has always hated me, and perhaps
vice-versa.  If it were an editor, perhaps it would be vi. :-)

Minor correction: either I was mistaken about having tested with just
nolapic earlier, or it failed once just to confuse me.  When I later
tried the three ways, it worked with just nolapic, and that's what I've
had in the grub config for the last handful of reboots.  Picked up the
latest -686 kernel somewhere along in there, BTW, but all I can say for
certain about that one is that it works with just nolapic... at least
every boot so far.  :-/

Yeah, I thought the observation about the change in behavior with BIOS
version might be useful, even though it's a pretty big jump.
