IIRC, I'm pretty sure this is a problem with k3b and kernel 2.6.8 (which
Ubuntu Warty uses). Check the k3b page at
http://k3b.plainblack.com/index.pl/news2 and check the news item "Do Not
Use Kernel 2.6.8." I found the same problem as you and burning as root
was the only way I could see to make it work.

The Hoary branch should open in the next week or so (I think). Perhaps a
kernel >=2.6.9 will be there and k3b will work in user mode.
