Install barfs on detecting Sony DVD RW

Hi All,

Just trying to install onto my Shuttle SB65G2 and falling
pretty much at the first hurdle, since the Ubuntu installer
seems unable to find/load a driver for the Sony DVD RW
DW-U18A optical drive.

Interestingly enough, Knoppix booting with a 2.6 kernel
grinds to a halt at the same point.

One of the options offered up is detailed as loading the
driver for the DVD drive off of a floppy: this will be
difficult on account of the fact that I don't have a floppy
on this system.

Any thoughts? I've googled for the Sony drive, but didn't
turn up anything inspiring.
