Slave Drive Installation

Hey,
I installed ubuntu on my slave drive, (winXP on the primary). I
install grub on hd1, and when i reboot i get:
root (hd1,0) fs unknown
error 17: unable to mount partition

Yet if I instal grub in the mbr of the primary, it works. (yet this is
not what i want to do because i want to use the nt loader.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated thank you
