Well, you're in luck, I think. :-)

Because there were many people having this sort of problem, we took a
conservative approach and disabled DMA on CD-ROMs by default in the kernel.
So, with the current daily CD, you shouldn't have this problem.

Assuming you used an older CD (such as the preview or sounder #9), if you
retry with the most recent daily CD it might fix things for you.

If you still have this problem with the most recent daily, maybe it's not
actually the same problem.
