Network Settings gui tool not working "Configuration could not be loaded"

Hi,
Thanks to previous help on the list I now have wvdial installed.
I then went to the Network Settings gui tool to set up a ppp connection.
It all went well until I got an "Unexpected exit" type error message as I
closed the tool. It doesn't appear to have written a complete and valid
wvdial.conf and, worse still, when I try to reopen the Network Settings
tool I get an error "Configuration could not be loaded" "There was an
error running the backend script". So I can't start over again.
Presumably I need to repair or remove some kind of damaged
configuration/script file; but what and where? Are there any error
message logs that I should look in for hints?
Neil
