Bugzilla #1943 still affecting me after upgrade

I upgraded to control-center 2.8.0-0ubuntu4 via daily build 10-5, but
the 1943 bug is still afflicting me, preventing me from using my
system. Stebastian Bacher asked me to install libesd-alsa0, but that
failed because it would have created a conflict with libesd0.

Has anyone had any luck actually working around this bug? I'd *really*
like to get my system up and running so I can get it online and
actually start *using* it.
