fetchmail "smtp listener protocol error": MTA config issue?

I'm trying to fetch my mail using fetchmail, but when I do, I get the
following error:
"fetchmail: smtp listener protocol error"
I'm guessing this probably refers to the local MTA (postfix?) not yet
being configured properly?
I'm running fetchmail by hand as my mortal self (only for my mail, not
for system-wide mail), and what I want to do is feed it through procmail
and spamassassin and then into my mail folders.
I'm assuming my existing config files for these should still be
applicable and that the error does relate to the MTA?
Is this OK for my .forward file?
"|/usr/bin/procmail"
Can anybody advise what I need to setup in postfix (assuming that's the
issue?) Is there an easy way of doing this (webmin, perhaps, or a helper
script?) or am I going to have to get my hands dirty with editing raw
config files (oh well, at least it's not sendmail <shudder> ;-)
Thanks,
David.
