mounting usb cdroms

So just plugging it in and inserting a CD does not work? That's the
way it is supposed to behave.

If it does not work, can you please help us to debug this by executing the
following commands after you plugged in the drive and inserted a CD:

dmesg > dmesg.txt
lshal > lshal.txt

Can you please reply with attaching the two output files dmesg.txt and
lshal.txt?
