INSTALLATION PROBLEM - COULDN'T DOWNLOAD IFRENAME

Hello - I am trying to install Ubuntu Linux on an IBM Thinkpad 770.  The
istallation appeared to be working but the installation of the base
system failed with the message "Couldn't download the ifrename".  I was
told to look in /var/log/messages for the full error but I don't know
how to do this.  Can anyone help?
