Root Account Setup

I just installed Ubuntu on a laptop that only I use and my life would be
easier with a root account.   I understand the reasons to use sudo, but
I'll take my chances (I'm careful when making changes).

How do I activate root?

PS  I've tried a few versions of linux and Ubuntu is the best to date.
