Hi, I have the same problem.
My ALSA sound card drivers are loaded (at least that say lsmod). My
soundcard is a intel8x0(810).
Sometimes the /dev/dsp is missing. I have to recompile my kernel but
this didn't work neither.
I set up all volumes and even mixed its with alsamixer.
My PC is a laptop Toshiba Satellite. And everything works fine with
Debian Sarge. I don't know if this is a kernel 2.6.8.1 version.
Any other info that you need, please just ask me.
