PPC - no audio with CD player

I have had problems getting my 400mhz AGP G4 (2001)  to output any 
sound. All system sounds work fine and ripping the cd first and playing 
the file works fine in all apps. All volume mixer levels were checked 
and un-muted. Th app appears to be working fine otherwise. All tracks 
are identified and appears to be playing. Are there any specific 
packages I should try reinstalling?
