Suggestions on Ubuntu default installation

Because those people on slow internet connections would like to not have to
install gcc if we want to install some software from source. We can order or get
a friend to download a CD for us, and then install from CD. I can download and
install a package from source easily if gcc is already installed on my machine.
Even though it's only a few megs, it takes a while to download on a dial-up. 

That being said, I understand why gcc would not be included in Ubuntu, since it
is aimed at people who would not be using gcc, or if they were, like you said,
they would know how to get and install it. :)
