Honestly the only time I've done anything that involved Linux and MIDI
is to send SYSEX (System Exclusive) data to an effects processor -
which is is done via MIDI, but doesn't actually have anything to do
with music or audio that you'd listen to.

I'm not sure how well or if anything here works with Ubuntu, but I had
