SUDO goof-up

what command did you use?
this exact command should execute(if not solve the problem):

sudo chown $USERNAME /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/

another thing you could do, is completely remove firefox with
synaptic, and then reinstall it. (make sure the
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox firectory is gone before installing again).
