Openoffice - writing aids not comming up

I had this same problem. I solved it by installing myspell-en-us:

sudo apt-get install myspell-en-us

You will (obviously) have to change the language to suit your needs. :) After I
installed myspell the auto-spell-check and spell-check functionality started
working correctly.
