Super-slow response, not quite dead

Well yes, I'm sure you're right. Sound output has beeh a challenge in
every distro other than Mandrake. I can see dmesg output. Anything I
should look for? And what to do?
Stephen Durham has also mentioned an smp kernel - there's that install
question again <g>. Learning is good, patience is good. I need a drink
<g>.
