I recently bought a combination firewire / USB external drive to use with
Ubuntu

It is recognised immediately if I plug it into the USB port but I get the
following in syslog when I plug it into the firewire port and, of course,
the drive is not useable.

Nov 30 19:12:35 localhost kernel: ieee1394: sbp2: Error logging into SBP-2
device - login timed-out
Nov 30 19:12:35 localhost kernel: sbp2: probe of 0001d200e08c0160-0 failed
with error -16
Nov 30 19:12:35 localhost kernel: ieee1394: Host added: ID:BUS[1-00:1023]
GUID[00301bb30000261e]
Nov 30 19:12:35 localhost kernel: scsi6 : SCSI emulation for IEEE-1394
SBP-2 Devices
Nov 30 19:12:35 localhost ieee1394.agent[4346]: eth1394: blacklisted
Nov 30 19:12:56 localhost kernel: ieee1394: sbp2: Error logging into SBP-2
device - login timed-out
Nov 30 19:12:56 localhost kernel: sbp2: probe of 0001d200e08c0160-0 failed
with error -16

I read that perhaps unloading and the reloading the modules sbp2, ohci1394
and ieee1394. When I try modprobe -r ohci1394 the terminal hangs. Ctrl C
doesn't seem to do anything.

The following messages appear in syslog.

Nov 30 20:18:03 localhost kernel: ieee1394: Node removed:
ID:BUS[0-00:1023] GUID[0001d200e08c0160]
Nov 30 20:18:03 localhost kernel: ieee1394: Node removed:

'/dev/0001d200e08c0160'
Nov 30 20:18:13 localhost udev[5680]: removing device node

Nov 30 20:18:13 localhost udev[5684]: removing device node

Can anyone suggest how to get this drive working using the firewire port.

Thank you
Steven
