the files in pool are referenced by the distribution package lists
(which are read by apt/synaptic)...you will find your package listed in:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/warty/universe/binary-i386/Packages.gz

which is the package list for universe....
...so amsn is found in universe ;)
