I would just like to thank you whoever it was that told me very recently
that Synaptic keeps a local copy of all downloaded deb packages
into /var/cache/apt.
Last night I screwed up big time (please don't ask) and my innocent
Ubuntu died all of a sudden.
I could only start in recovery mode, but this was enough to copy all the
packages into my /home partition, before re-installing Ubuntu on /
partition.
I then put all my deb files back into /var/cache/apt, and I was able to
re-install all my programs in a eye blink.
I had 250MB worth of deb packages, which represent many many many MANY
hours of download as I do not have broadband.
My re-install could have been a true nighmare, buth thanks to you, it
turned out almost like a walk in the park.
Thank you.
Vince, very grateful indeed...
