Correct!

Allmost! /dev/parport0 doesn't exist and sane tells me it's using
parport0 it doesn't point to a file in /dev

Yes! Should I post the contents if this dir?

sudo sane-find-scanner -p

   # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make
sure that
   # you have loaded a SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.
   # Also you need support for SCSI Generic (sg) in your operating system.
   # If using Linux, try "modprobe sg".

   # No USB scanners found. If you expected something different, make
sure that
   # you have loaded a driver for your USB host controller and have
installed a
   # kernel scanner module.

   # No Mustek parallel port scanners found. If you expected something
   # different, make sure the scanner is correctly connected to your
computer
   # and you have apropriate access rights.

   # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
   # can't be detected by this program.

and the same when not root. However:

sudo scanimage -L
device `canon_pp:parport0' is a CANON FB330P flatbed scanner

but as a normal user:
scanimage -L

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

These actions doesn't create /dev/parport0, not even if I scan as root.
