no dead-keys in openoffice

Hi,
I'm using a french-canadian keyboard in hoary and can't get dead-keys
(letters like 'é' or 'ç') in openoffice.org anymore. This used to work
and I think it may have stopped working when I switched to UTF-8
encoding. All other applications that I've tried work fine.
I've seen another report of the same problem that went unanswered.

Does anyone has a clue on how to fix this? Is it an ubuntu bug or
openoffice?
