no gcc and g++ on default install

hi:

I just installed ubuntu, but the gcc and g++ compiler was nowhere to
be found.  I typed man gcc and man g++, the man pages cant be found
either.

can anyone pls tell me if the gcc and g++ compilers are on the cd?

and how would i be able to install gcc and g++ on my ubuntu system.

btw, ubuntu really impressed me.  the system looks real smooth.
