freezing mouse

I have a Dell usb optical mouse that works great except that it freezes
up periodically. The only way I can get it working again is to unplug it
then plug it back it. I was thinking that it would probably work doing a
"kill -hup pid#" but I'm not sure what it's service is named. Anyone
know what it's service is called or have a solution to this issue.
Suggestions?
