Switching Window Managers

How does one go about switching window managers in Ubuntu's Gnome?
Also, Is there a program or something that will allow someone to choose
multiple applications and have them atomatically split and share the
desktop space like (cough) Windows "Tile" feature where you press Ctrl
and then highlight multiple buttons in the taskbar and then right click
and select "Tile windows Vertically" or "Tile windows Horizontally".
