grub is installed but not configured correctly

what changes did you make to the locations of those hard drives?

Im guessing you moved the locale of the linux drive from hd0 to hd1 etc
but its still the first disk being found by the bios and grub starts
then fails

please type your drive configuration

primary ide channel - primary (master)=

secondary (slave)=

secondary ide channel      primary=

secondary=

for example

primary ide channel - primary (master)= cdrw

secondary (slave)= 40gb hd

secondary ide channel      primary=dvdrom

secondary= 120gb hd

anytime you have problems with grub you dont necessarily to reinstall
the OS - if you install grub to the MBR your data can remain safe and
sound while you do whatever to the mbr, if that is even necessary
