2d user added, no sound (useradd or adduser ?)

paul,

the command 'ps -aux | grep esd' would return the running copies of every
process
ps outputs with the string 'esd' in it if its running including with the
running grep for esd.
i'd use 'ps -aux | grep -v grep | grep esd' as it  would return the same
info except it will
NOT return the grep instance as the '-v' argument tells it to ignore every
instance of the string
'grep' in the output. besides its is just plain more elegant.

Off topic, but one tip is to do:

  ... | grep [e]sd

which will match a running copy of 'esd', but not the grep command itself.
