Running apt & synaptic?

There's no actually command called 'APT';  you're probably thinking of:

  sudo apt-get install synaptic

Synaptic should already be installed IIRC and under the main menus at the
top of the screen, or by typing:

  sudo synaptic

at a command prompt.
