Problems with iBook G3

I guess this is the same as the ibook g4, where the cd drive does not
have a connection to the soundcard at all...Using "xmms-cdread" in xmms
or cdcd works for me, though, but they are only work arounds.  I think
there's some patch for gnome-cd to use cdparanoia to work around this,
but I keep forgetting to look into it.
