Hello together

I try to use my scanner agfa snapscan e50 with xsane. as howto's I use
the following links

http://snapscan.sourceforge.net/
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=210616

Till now the following 'scanner' packages are installed:

libusb, libsane, hotplug, Snape50.bin and sane-utils
(following the gentoo and sourceforge howtos)

I also adapted the /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf
(firmware /usr/local/bin/sane/Snape50.bin).

Further I checked the proc entry 'cat /proc/bus/usb/devices'. The output
shows some information about my snapscan e50
---snip
T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 1.00 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1

I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=(none)

Also the command 'sane-find-scanner' does find my snapscan e50
---snip
found USB scanner (vendor=0x06bd [AGFA ], product=0x208f [SNAPSCAN]) at
libusb:002:002
  # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be
supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.
---snip

But if I start xsane on there is a memory error
(Speicherzugriffsfehler)!! So I can't use my scanner under Ubuntu.
Using MacOSX everthing works fine.

Using lsmod it seems to me there isn't a module 'scanner'. Does the
Kernel 2.6.8 not need such a module? As far as I can remember under
Debian sarge (kernel 2.4.x) I had to load a module 'scanner' (or
something like that). Could someone with a successful scanner
installation sen me an lsmod output (kernel 2.6.8)?

Hoping to receive favourable answers I wish all of you a good time!

Kind regards, Roland
