How do I install a .deb package that isn't in a repository?

Synaptic is a front-end for apt, where apt mostly fetches packages.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you'll need an apt repository for what you
want. So, to save yourself some time, perhaps just use dpkg from the
command line. Unless of course this is for more than one or two
computers. ;)
