video performance improvement?

I'm using an IBM Thinkpad R30, and am wanting to optimise it as far as
I can, one step at a time. The display is working fine, I'm just
wondering if I can get it working even better? I notice when viewing
videos for example, there's quite a few dropped frames.

My video card is a Trident Cyberblade-Ai1 AGP. A little Googling
turned up a trident driver package but not the actual file, and it's
not in universe. Would there be any improvement whatsoever if I was to
install this, and what other steps should I take?
