best dual boot strategy?

I created a FAT32 partition on my dual boot system to exchange files
between winblowns and Ubuntu. But at Linux I cannot write to it. At
setup I mounted it on /mediafiles
ls -l says "dwrx--x--x"
With sudo however I cannot change the rights.
whenever i type:
"sudo chmod -R go+rw mediafiles" or "sudo chmod go+rw mediafiles"
I just go to the next commandline, but nothing changes?

any ideas?
