digital camera success!

Hi!

It was with some hesitation that I just bought an HP Photosmart 935
digital camera, after hearing some fairly shaky reports about getting
digital cameras working under Linux. The Photosmart also has a docking
station that it sits on, which in turn plugs into the computer via
USB. Windows has plenty of drivers to grease this little setup, so I
was sure it was going to need serious configuration to get anything
happening.

My hesitation was entirely misguided however (I should have given the
Ubuntu team more credit!) - plugging in the docking station
automatically brought up a friendly dialog asking if I wanted to
import the pictures. I haven't used gthumb before, and have to say
it's a very neat little app! The communication happened seamlessly and
my pictures were neatly filed away. All the picture details
(apperture, shutterspeed, even flash energy) are saved and easily
accessed, manipulation and filing seem intuitive enough. And then
there's the power of the Gimp but a mouse-click away. I look forward
to learning more!

There's enough stories about things not working on this list so I hope
this adds some positive energy!

Rudi
