periodic lockups

Hiya,
I've been using ubuntu for a couple of months now. I'm using hoary and
i dist-upgrade about once a week. The problem I'm having at the moment
is that is if the machine is on for a few hours the machine beeps
locks up and i have to got a diff terminal to reboot the machine.
There is a message saying that it has released IRQ11, i've tried to
find out what hardware that is referring to, but haven't looked into
it too much, anyone any idea why this is could happen. I'm aware that
it could be a hardware failure, but as i've had this setup working
flawlessly with other distro (albeit a couple of months back), i don't
really wanna believe it.
