A default installation of Windows XP does indeed come with Java installed.
I know that for a fact because I removed the MS Java that comes installed by
default by hand and installed Sun's Java instead. However, you are right
about the other things.

Nevertheless, the whole point is that it is very simple to install all of
these other things using Windows. That is not the case with Ubuntu. Just
take a look at the Java install instructions for Ubuntu and tell me how long
it's going to be in minutes before your average computer user who is used to
Windows goes right back to Windows? Not very long IMHO. :o

This is exactly the point I was trying to get across. Thank God you worded
it much better than I have managed to do. :P

When you open Windows, you let in bugs!!!
