No Access to Network Tools

Hi All:
I'm trying to use the Network Tools: Applications menu >> System Tools
>> Network Tools. Under the Devices tab (default), I'm selecting eth0
for the Network device and pressing the Configure button. It asks for
the administrator password, I type in my password and it tells me that
the password is invalid. I'm typing in the correct password. I've
confirmed that it works with 'sudo su' and I've tried it about a dozen
times now. What is it asking for? Does it want the root password,
which doesn't exist on Ubuntu?
Thanks for any guidance,
Ed
