I am trying to install Ubuntu Linux on an older Pentium machine. I created
a boot floppy using SmartBootManager, and burned the Ubuntu CD-ROM boot CD.
When I boot from the floppy, the CD-ROM drive does not show up in the list
of drives available to boot from. So I did a bit of reading and discovered
that the problem may be non-standard I/O port addresses for my CD-ROM. I
wasn't sure how to find out what those addresses are, so I installed Windows
2000 (grrr) and ran the System Information program, which reports al the I/O
addresses as follows:

I am fairly certain that the CD-ROM is on the Secondary IDE channel, so I
specified 170,177 as the I/O port addresses for the CD-ROM in
SmartBootManager, saved the settings and then rebooted... still does not
recognize the CD-ROM.
One question is what exactly are the two addresses that are supposed to be
entered in the CD-ROM I/O port settings? Assuming the CD-ROM is on the
Secondary IDE channel above, are 170, 177 the right numbers to enter?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a Linux neophyte, and Ubuntu
seems really cool. Would like to make it work on my old Pentium.
