Installation on software RAID

Are there any plans in the future to enable Ubuntu to be installed on a
software RAID array? I see the installer allows creation of software
RAID arrays, but when attempting to install on it, the following appears:

"Ubuntu does not currently support using software RAID for the root
filesystem or /boot partition. A system installed in this way will not boot"

I have done a fair bit of reading as I am currently trying to find a
distro for a home file server that will be running software RAID and it
appears this is somewhat Debian specific as I have seen several not to
straight foward workarounds for a Debian Install on software RAID.

So far I found Fedora and Slackware have allowed me to do this (Fedora
stupidly easily via installer) however I would love to stick with Debian
as its what I know best, and specifically Ubuntu.

So is this a possibility for the installer or is it more tied to Debian?
Could be a great niche market for Ubuntu judging by the amount of
Debian Software RAID howtos and the following confused forum posts out
there ;)
