lm_sensors won't work?

Ok, here's another one that's got me stumped.  After installing the 
linsensors and lm_sensors packages, I seem to be unable to run 
sensors-detect.  The output of it says:
No i2c device files found. Use prog/mkdev/mkdev.sh to create them.

I can't find mkdev.sh and furthermore, I don't recall having to run that 
when I had lm_sensors running on this same machine with FC2.  I'm not 
even sure where to next go with this.  Any pointers?  Thanks!
