I hope bootsplash will be part of Ubuntu on next release or even sooner
with system update.
Why ?
Even if I'm a linux power user, I like things that look smooth and
pretty. It seems quite useless, but having a system that look nice is
pleasent. And there's always the possibility to switch from silent mode
to verbose mode by simply pressing F2.
I also like bootsplash because I sometimes have to show a demo of linux
at work for customers who are newbies. Showing plain text boot is much
less impressive that showing a great bootsplash that will make linux
looks like a "futuristic" or at least "not outdated" system. This first
impression is really important for newbies who will eventually switch
from windows to linux.
So this is a must have, mostly because one of the goal of Ubuntu is to
get more people using linux. If it doesn't look like the nicest system
around, you have less chance that people will switch to Ubuntu IMHO.
