can't adjust brightness on powerbook G4 12'

Dear Ubuntu users,

I just realized that I can not adjust the brightness on my powerbook,
pressing the keys does not do anything.
Though PBButtonsd seems to work for everything else, sound, eject ...
I really want to fix it as it makes a huge difference when working on 
battery.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
