[warty] lack of ethernet media autodetect (works in knoppix tho')

standing down on the bug report.  It seems the problem stemmed from
hotplug not loading the e100 driver automagically.

I blacklisted becker's driver, and restarted hotplug whilst the system
was up with e100 loaded and online.  And now it's working (???).  I've
been buggering with this thing on and off for about a  week now!
