Can't log-in !

There are several bugs entered against various distros where running a
program as root from a user session resulted in a users .ICEauthority file
being owned by root and preventing user from logging in again after a
shutdown. This has been reported under gnome and kde on redhat and other
distros.

Not sure if it isn't operator error or a case of the OS not protecting
itself from user/program mistakes. The obvious answer is not to do things
like run certain programs as root when you don't need to.

I'll let the experts comment further.
