Hoary / kernel 2.6.9: Gaim cannot connect to AIM/ICQ?

Well, it seems that 2.6.9 is the problem rather than Hoary.  After
rebooting in 2.6.8, GAIM connects to AIM and ICQ without problems. 
And ntpd starts from init (or runsv) as expected.
