Problems resolving internet addresses

I have the same problem - really slow DNS resolution with Firefox in
Ubuntu. I have another box running Fedora FC2 through the same router
and it is almost instantaneous. I ran the changes to Firefox through
about:config and it made little difference. then I checked ifconfig and
got the following:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0F:EA:36:B2:7F
inet addr:192.168.0.8 Bcast:192.168.0.255
Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::20f:eaff:fe36:b27f/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:573 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:578 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:506160 (494.2 KiB) TX bytes:73351 (71.6 KiB)
Interrupt:177 Base address:0xd000
To my untrained eye line 3 is suspicious - it doesn't exist in my
Fedora ifconfig. How do I change this?
