Ubuntu does in fact have its own popularity contest; it's even included in
the base system.

However, due to privacy concerns, it is disabled by default, and as part of
the process of simplifying installation, Ubuntu doesn't ask the user whether
they'd like to participate.

Users who would like to participate should run:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure popularity-contest

These are handy; would you create a page in the wiki with these examples?
It would probably be best to document them as complete commands, so that
they don't rely on an alias and can be cut-and-pasted by anyone.
