I'm a fairly new user to Linux, and Ubuntu is one of two I have used
(the other caused so many problems I gave up). Ubuntu is great, and I
think the fact it included OpenOffice and GIMP were good. OpenOffice is
easy for users like me, who are used to Microsoft Office, and GIMP, well
that came in useful! Very good for editing my photos and so on..
One thing is I used Thunderbird on Windows so I didnt even bother to
look at Evolution before downloading Thunderbird. If Ubuntu wants to
encourage users to switch to Linux from Windows (not just you
"hardcore" users) then sticking to the big names that we know, such as
OpenOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, XMMS, GIMP, is a good idea.
What I think should also be included is ndiswrapper (helpful :)),
Scribus or some other DTP program, a GOOD CD Burning App (I haven't
found one yet), and something that is similar to the Media Library in
Winamp - I've seen a few good ones for KDE, none for Gnome.
Well there's the new Linux users POV for you.

Jak.
