Ubuntu installed - left at CLI

Problem solved! Thank's everyone who replied :-) The solution was "apt-get install ubuntu-desktop".  First I tried "startx", because it's the easiest. That gave me "Command not found". The rest went as follows.

Yes it did. I even saw "Thank you for choosing Ubuntu" :-) I also downloaded available updates during the installation. I really didn't notice anything going visibly wrong during the installation - I just installed Ubuntu for my second brother too and also for myself a couple of days ago.

I tried these first. The first one gave a long list of names (items? words? what? - when you're tired, it's harder to speak a foreign language :-) I would have been forced to write down the list by hand on a piece of paper and then write it back to this e-mail, because I have no idea how to get such a list sent somewere when I'm at the CLI, nor how to copy it to another partition (Win XP) - heck, I couldn't even copy it to a floppy disk.

When I tried those dpkg lines, I got an errormessage "unknown flag -1"

As I already told, this did the trick. I'm thinking now if this system is complete and stable, because something has obviously gone wrong during the installation. Is there a way to do a some kind of system check? And is this something thant should be reported in the Ubuntu Bugzilla?
